4. Jul 11,  · I would be disappointed with miles on a cassette no matter what I did with the chain. I'd also run the cassette for at least 50 miles to see if the skipping goes away. I also get three chains to a cassette and often the third one starts out with a few skipping gears before meshing well.

5. It's easy to do and if you do get it cross-threaded, you'll be buying a new cassette and freehub body. Get it started by hand. Tool-wise, you'll need a cassette tool, a wrench to turn the cassette tool, a chain whip, a chain breaker, and something to undo a masterlink (masterlink pliers, or ghetto-rig a tool).
